Located at one of the highest points in Essex and a stone’s throw from the beautiful Epping Forest, our 16th-century Grade II listed building invites locals, walkers, cyclists and visitors to indulge in a truly memorable pub experience.

A Pub with History & Heart

Having proudly stood for hundreds of years, The Gardeners Arms has held its place as a treasured community hub for generations. Today, it remains family-run and, from cooked-to-order dishes using the freshest ingredients to fun-filled evening events, continues well-loved hospitality traditions. Our landlady, Patricia Roberts, has been the soul of the pub for over 40 years and is still inspiring, still hands-on and still welcomes guests with the same warmth at 90 years old!

Recent interior refurbishments complement the character of the original structure with authentic yet modern surroundings, roaring log and coal fires in winter, and a bar area that’s cool and airy during summer thanks to full air conditioning. Outside, you can discover panoramic views across London from our terrace and enjoy beautiful forest walks through Epping Forest.
